Emmanuel Jalai Says Durban City Move Has Exceeded Expectations

Zimbabwean defender Emmanuel Jalai says his move to South African side Durban City has been everything he hoped for and more after an impressive first six months at the club.

The former Dynamos defender joined Durban City in January and quickly became a regular in the team, making 19 appearances across all competitions as he helped the club enjoy a successful campaign.

Reflecting on his time at the club so far, Jalai said he had settled in smoothly thanks to the warm reception he received upon arrival.

So far everything has gone well. The club welcomed me warmly from the first day and that made it easier for me to settle,” Jalai said.

Move Exceeds Expectations

Jalai revealed that he arrived in South Africa with ambitions of developing his game and contributing to the team’s success, but believes the experience has surpassed what he initially envisioned.

“I came here hoping to grow as a player and help the team achieve its objectives. Looking back at the season, I can say it has exceeded my expectations.”

The defender’s strong performances quickly earned him a place in the starting line-up, making him one of the club’s most dependable players during the second half of the season.

Tough Competition Helping Development

The Zimbabwean international also praised the quality of football in South Africa, saying the demanding nature of the league has pushed him to improve tactically and physically.

The competition is very high and every match is challenging. It forces you to improve every day because there are no easy games,” he said.

“I have learned a lot tactically and physically. Playing against quality players every week helps you become better.”

Jalai’s adaptation to the South African game has been evident in his consistent performances since crossing the border.

Cup Success Caps Strong Season

One of the highlights of his debut season came when Durban City defeated TS Galaxy 2-1 in the Nedbank Cup final last month.

Jalai played a key role throughout the campaign as Durban City lifted the prestigious trophy, adding silverware to what has already been a memorable start to his spell with the club.

Eyes on Greater Achievements

Despite his impressive beginning, Jalai says he remains focused on continuing his development and achieving more success in the future.

“I am happy with how things have gone, but as a player you always want to do more and keep improving. I believe this is just the beginning and I am looking forward to achieving even more with the club.”

Having settled quickly and established himself as a key figure, the former Dynamos FC defender appears determined to build on a promising first chapter at Durban City.
