Zimbabwe Ambassador Victor Matemadanda Dies

Zimbabwe’s Ambassador to Mozambique and Eswatini, Victor Matemadanda, has died.

Matemadanda, a former liberation war veterans’ leader and seasoned public servant, died on Saturday night. The circumstances surrounding his death were not immediately disclosed.

Death Confirmed by Government

Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Nick Ndabaningi Mangwana, announced the news on Sunday morning, describing Matemadanda’s death as a significant loss to the nation.

In a brief statement, Mangwana said the ambassador had passed away during the night, expressing sadness at the loss of a man who had served Zimbabwe in various capacities over the years.

Ambassador Victor Matemadanda passed away last night. This is a deeply saddening loss. Dr. Matemadanda served as Zimbabwe’s Ambassador to the Republic of Mozambique and the Kingdom of Eswatini. Sincere condolences go to His Excellency the President, whom he represented with dedication, and to his family, friends, colleagues, and the nation at large. MHDSRIP.”

The Government had not yet released further details regarding the cause of death.

Distinguished Career in Public Service

At the time of his death, Matemadanda was serving as Zimbabwe’s ambassador to Mozambique and the Kingdom of Eswatini, a role that placed him at the forefront of strengthening diplomatic relations between Zimbabwe and its regional neighbours.

His appointment to the diplomatic service came after a long career in public affairs, during which he held several influential positions and remained an active figure in national development issues.

War Veterans Leadership Legacy

Before taking up his ambassadorial posting, Matemadanda served as national chairperson of the Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans Association, where he became one of the most recognisable voices representing former liberation fighters.

During his tenure, he was involved in advocating for the welfare of war veterans and participated in discussions on national policy matters affecting former combatants.
