Retired Major General Everisto Dzihwema Dies Aged 63 After Treatment In India
Retired Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) Major General Everisto Dzihwema has died at the age of 63 after receiving medical treatment in India. The former senior military officer died on Thursday, with the Zimbabwe National Army confirming his passing in a statement issued on Friday, June 27, 2026.
Zimbabwe National Army Confirms Major General Everisto Dzihwema’s Death
The Zimbabwe National Army announced the death through Director of Army Public Relations Colonel Hlengiwe Dube, who conveyed the message on behalf of Commander Zimbabwe National Army Lieutenant-General Asher Walter Tapfumaneyi.
The Herald reports that Colonel Dube said:
“The Commander Zimbabwe National Army, Lieutenant-General Asher Walter Tapfumaneyi, regrets to announce the untimely death of Major General (Retired) Everisto Dzihwema.”
According to The Herald, the retired senior officer died in India, where he had been receiving treatment. The statement did not disclose the nature of his illness.
Colonel Dube also confirmed that the late Major General is survived by his wife, Alice Dzihwema, and their three children.
She added:
“The late retired Major General is survived by his wife, Alice Dzihwema, and three children.”
Mourners Gather In Ruwa As Burial Arrangements Awaited
The Zimbabwe National Army said mourners have gathered at the family home in Zimre Park, Ruwa, while preparations continue.
Colonel Dube said:
“Mourners are gathered at House Number 5535, Zimre Park, Ruwa. More details on burial arrangements will be announced in due course.”
According to The Herald, Major General (Retired) Dzihwema was among the Zimbabwe National Army’s senior retired officers.
Further information regarding funeral and burial arrangements is expected to be released by the Dzihwema family together with the Zimbabwe National Army in the coming days.
