Makokoba Man Dies Three Days After Being Slapped During Confrontation
A 38-year-old Bulawayo man has died after he was allegedly slapped once during a heated confrontation in Makokoba. The single blow allegedly sent him falling backwards into a wall, leaving him with a serious head injury that later claimed his life.
The incident happened on 25 June 2026, before Mandlenkosi Mlotshwa died at Mpilo Central Hospital three days later.
Bulawayo Man Allegedly Falls After Single Slap
The Herald reports that Mlotshwa was drinking with three friends at his Third Street home in Makokoba at around 8pm when an argument broke out.
One of the men allegedly insulted Mlotshwa, leading to a heated exchange. The man reportedly left before returning with his 19-year-old son, Sibusiso Banda.
Banda allegedly confronted Mlotshwa and slapped him once.
The impact allegedly caused the 38-year-old to fall backwards and hit his head against a wall.
Bulawayo provincial police spokesperson Inspector Nomalanga Msebele confirmed the incident and said police investigations were underway.
Family Found Mandlenkosi Mlotshwa Unconscious
The following morning, Mlotshwa’s relatives reportedly found him unconscious. He was also unable to speak or see properly.
He was rushed to Mpilo Central Hospital, where doctors diagnosed a blood clot in his head. He died on 28 June 2026.
His sister, Sithulisiwe Mlotshwa, described how quickly the situation changed.
“It all happened so fast. Before we knew it, things had escalated.”
She said the family became concerned after noticing his condition the next day.
“The next day he could not speak properly and could not see well. That is when we rushed him to Mpilo Hospital.”
Mlotshwa was the family breadwinner and leaves behind two school-going children.
Police Arrest 19-Year-Old After Makokoba Incident
Police have since arrested Banda in connection with the case.
His mother, Rosemary Banda, said the two families had been neighbours for years and were affected by what had happened.
“We are willing to help in any way we can regarding the funeral.”
Inspector Msebele urged members of the public to settle disagreements peacefully. She warned that seemingly minor confrontations could quickly have serious consequences.
Police investigations into the circumstances surrounding Mlotshwa’s death remain underway.
