Suspect Taken Into Custody

In a statement, the ZRP confirmed the arrest of Brendon Tsakatsa (29) of Chikanga 1, Mutare.

Police said Tsakatsa is accused of assaulting Constable Maxwell Mukumbuzi at a service station in Mutare on June 29, 2026.

The incident was recorded on video and later circulated across social media platforms, prompting public debate over the confrontation.

Police Issue Strong Warning

Following the arrest, the ZRP warned kombi operators, pirate taxi drivers and members of the public against assaulting, resisting or obstructing police officers while they are carrying out their lawful duties.

Police stressed that such actions constitute criminal offences and said anyone found violating the law would be arrested and prosecuted without fear or favour.

Public Urged to Follow Legal Channels

The ZRP also urged members of the public to cooperate with law enforcement officers during the execution of their duties.

The force said individuals with complaints regarding police conduct should use the established complaint and grievance procedures rather than resorting to violence or taking the law into their own hands.

Police reiterated their commitment to upholding the law and maintaining public order while calling on citizens to resolve disputes through lawful means.
