JMPD confirms closure of M1 South after a fatal accident

The Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) has confirmed the closure of the M1 South following a fatal accident on Monday.

The crash occurred at the Houghton Drive exit in Houghton Estate.

The collision involved two vehicles, resulting in the complete closure of all lanes on the southbound highway.

Spokesperson Xolani Fihla said that JMPD officers are on the scene managing the situation and directing traffic.

“At the present the total number of fatalities has not been confirmed. Motorists travelling on the M1 Southbound towards Central Johannesburg are strongly advised to avoid the area and seek alternative routes. Suggested detours include Central and West Streets in Houghton Estate and Oxford Road.”
