Highlanders Chairman, Vice Chairman And Treasurer Killed In Horror Road Accident After Kariba Trip
Three senior Highlanders Football Club executives have died following a tragic road accident on the Harare-Bulawayo highway while returning from Kariba, where the club had played a league match against ZPC Kariba. The crash, which also claimed the life of a woman travelling with them, has sent shockwaves through Zimbabwean football during Highlanders’ centenary year.
The fatal accident happened on the evening of Thursday, 23 July 2026, at Lochard, about 50 kilometres outside Bulawayo. Reports indicate the executives were travelling in a Ford Raptor after Highlanders’ 1-0 defeat to ZPC Kariba on Wednesday, 22 July 2026.
Highlanders Executives Die After Vehicle Hits Cow Near Bulawayo
According to ZimLive, Highlanders chairman Kenneth Mhlophe, vice chairman Fiso Siziba and treasurer Nkani Khoza were killed when their vehicle allegedly struck a cow before colliding with a bus travelling in the opposite direction.
The publication reported that the impact left the vehicle uncontrollable before it overturned.
A woman travelling with the executives also lost her life after she was reportedly thrown from the vehicle and was then struck by another car.
Emergency services, including the Bulawayo Fire Brigade, attended the scene and worked to recover the victims trapped inside the wreckage.
Kenneth Mhlophe, a retired army colonel and businessman, was serving his second term as Highlanders chairman. He had previously indicated that he would not seek another term when his tenure ends in January 2027.
Fiso Siziba served as a superintendent in the Zimbabwe Republic Police, while Nkani Khoza owned Totally Uniforms, a company supplying school uniforms and related products.
ZIFA Says Zimbabwean Football Has Lost Three Dedicated Servants
On Friday, 24 July 2026, the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) released a statement mourning the deaths of the three club officials.
ZIFA president Nqobile Magwizi said:
“We are devastated by this heartbreaking tragedy, and our thoughts and prayers are with the families of Kenneth Mhlophe, Fiso Siziba and Nkani Khoza, as well as the entire Highlanders family.”
He added:
“It is especially painful that this loss comes during Highlanders’ centenary year, a time that should have been filled with celebration and reflection on a remarkable legacy. Instead, the football family is united in mourning.”
ZIFA also described the loss as immeasurable for Highlanders, Bulawayo and Zimbabwean football, saying the three officials had made lasting contributions through their leadership and service.
Highlanders Community Left Mourning
The tragedy comes just days after Highlanders travelled to Kariba for their Castle Lager Premier Soccer League fixture against ZPC Kariba.
As condolences continue to pour in from across the football community, the deaths of the three executives mark one of the darkest moments in Highlanders’ 100-year history. The football fraternity is now rallying around the families of the victims and the club as it mourns the loss of three long-serving administrators.
