Esigodini Farm Horror: Woman Dies After Alleged Robbers Make A Deadly Decision
A 56-year-old woman allegedly died in a horrific robbery after attackers reportedly set a farm cabin on fire in Esigodini, Matabeleland South. Another victim escaped with severe burns after the pair were allegedly locked inside the burning structure following the attack. Police have since launched a murder and attempted murder investigation as they hunt for the suspects.
The incident reportedly happened on 23 July 2026 at Ngenisa Farm in Mbalabala, Esigodini. Tracy Simela, 56, is alleged to have died after becoming trapped inside the cabin, while the second victim, aged 46, managed to escape despite suffering serious burns.
Esigodini Farm Attack Leaves One Dead
Confirming the incident, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) said investigations were underway.
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police is investigating a case of murder and attempted murder which occurred on 23 July 2026 at Ngenisa Farm, Mbalabala, Esigodini, where Tracy Simela (56) was murdered.”
Police alleged that two unidentified men, armed with a knife and an axe, attacked the victims before robbing them of an Oking mobile phone, a Vodafone mobile phone and US$20 (approximately R330) in cash.
Police Detail Alleged Cabin Fire
The ZRP alleged that after assaulting the victims, the suspects poured petrol inside the cabin, locked the pair inside and then set the structure alight before fleeing.
“The suspects allegedly assaulted the complainant and the victim, poured petrol inside the cabin, locked them inside and set it on fire before fleeing into the bush.”
“The victim died after being trapped in the burning cabin, while the complainant escaped with severe burns.”
ZRP Appeals For Information
Police said no arrests had been made by 26 July 2026, the date this article was written. The motive behind the alleged attack remains unknown.
The ZRP has appealed to members of the public with information that could help identify or locate the suspects to report to their nearest police station or contact the force through its National Complaints Desk.
Investigations are continuing.
