New FC Platinum coach Thabo Senong expects the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League to reach new heights soon. He believes the competition will rank among COSAFA’s strongest leagues within two seasons.
The South African coach recently joined the Zvishavane club. Since arriving, he has been impressed by the league’s steady growth and rising standards.
Speaking on Metro FM, Senong praised the ambition shown by Zimbabwean clubs and players.
“Zimbabwean league is growing, there are many ambitious clubs, and in two seasons, Zimbabwean league will be among the best in the COSAFA region.
“This is because the league keeps on growing, top players are coming to the league, the likes of Knowledge Musona just to mention a few,” said Senong on Metro FM.
Improved standards attracting regional talent
Senong also believes Zimbabwe has become an attractive destination for footballers across Southern Africa. According to him, players now see both sporting and financial opportunities in the league.
He explained that footballers weigh several factors before deciding where to continue their careers.
“Players are always looking for two elements in their football careers, a good environment to grow and money.
“In terms of environment, Zimbabwean clubs have created that in terms of performance analysts, sports scientist and technical coaches like strikers’ coach around the team.
“As for money, the league is growing and clubs are now able to take care of any national team player from the COSAFA region, whether he is from South Africa, the league is paying competitive salaries.”
Meanwhile, FC Platinum have strengthened their technical team. Former Bafana Bafana midfielder Reneilwe Letsolonyane will serve as Senong’s assistant coach.
