Khune Sees A Perfect Fit For Chiefs

Speaking to Soccer Laduma, Khune said Phili possesses the type of one-on-one attacking ability that has long been associated with some of Kaizer Chiefs’ most successful wide players.

He welcomed the winger to Naturena and expressed confidence that he would thrive in the club’s attacking style.

“First of all, I just want to say welcome to the Amakhosi family. This is the player I’ve been looking out for, for the past two seasons. I’ve been saying that he reminds me of Kgaugelo Sekgota, where he’s got those attributes of 1v1.”

Khune added that Phili’s willingness to take on defenders and get into dangerous positions made him an ideal addition to the squad.

Kaizer Chiefs obviously has been known as a team of scouting wingers that are not afraid to take on their opponents. I think Langelihle will fit perfectly.”

Compared To Chiefs Greats

The former Bafana Bafana goalkeeper also compared Phili’s playing style to several iconic Kaizer Chiefs wingers who thrilled supporters with their dribbling ability.

He said the youngster reminded him of players such as Jabu Mahlangu, formerly known as Jabu Pule, Junior Khanye, Scara Ngobese and Rene Richards.

According to Khune, Phili has shown similar qualities during his time at Stellenbosch FC and with South Africa’s under-20 side.

“He’s been one for the future. I’m very happy that Kaizer Chiefs was able to get his signature.”

Advice Ahead Of Amakhosi Debut

Khune encouraged the young winger to make the most of his first appearance for the Soweto giants, saying a strong debut could lay the foundation for a successful career at the club.

“It’s just a matter of having your very best first game. That will set the tone for the rest of your career. I wish him everything of the best. He’s such a great player, and Kaizer Chiefs did well to scout him and bring him to the club.”

Phili arrives at Kaizer Chiefs with high expectations, and Khune believes the winger has the talent to carry on the tradition of fearless attacking football that has defined many of the club’s greatest teams.
