The incident happened while the two brothers played snooker at Gwenyambira Shopping Centre. According to witnesses, the disagreement escalated quickly, ending with Prince allegedly stabbing his brother three times. Pardon died on arrival at a nearby clinic.
Prince, a nurse at Sally Mugabe Central Hospital who had recently tied the knot, fled the scene and was still on the run as of Thursday, 24 April. The woman at the centre of the deadly row has been identified as Phillipa.
Harare police spokesperson Inspector Luckmore Chakanza confirmed the shocking case and urged anyone with information about Prince’s whereabouts to come forward.
“Police are investigating a murder case involving biological brothers in Mufakose,” said Insp Chakanza.
Community mourns and reacts
Back in Mufakose, the community is grieving. Pardon, the son of a respected local church elder, was known and loved by many.
One neighbour didn’t hold back, saying Prince had always been aggressive and quick to anger, possibly linked to his bodybuilding habits.
“This is sad, Prince has been ever violent maybe it is because of weightlifting. We have been wondering how he treats patients, considering that he is a nurse at Sally Mugabe Central Hospital. Killing his brother because of Phillipa is sad. He got married recently and had a better wedding, only to frustrate his wife by fighting for a girlfriend,” said a neighbour.
Their father, Charles Ncube, was still processing the shock when contacted.
“I am based at the farm, I was not around. I was shocked to hear about this, and the brother is still on the run,” said Charles Ncube.
