City of Harare Speaks Out on Bed Bug Outbreak in Mbare
The City of Harare has clarified that the recent bed bug infestation, locally known as tsikidzi, remains confined to Mbare Flats.
This statement comes amid widespread social media reports claiming the infestation has spread to other suburbs.

Bedbugs
Giving an update on the outbreak, the City Council emphasized that while these claims are being taken seriously, investigations so far confirm the outbreak is limited to Mbare.
“So far, the infestation is confined to Mbare although our teams have been dispatched to assess other areas reported on social media to have bed bugs.

Investigation Underway in Other Suburbs
To address concerns raised by residents on social media, the City of Harare has deployed a dedicated team to assess the situation in the reported areas.
The city is actively monitoring the situation to prevent further spread of the infestation.
According to the statement:
“Following the bed bugs infestation at Mbare Flats recently, the City Council has activated its Incident Management System to effectively respond to the bed bugs.
This includes the appointment of a team to lead the fight against the bed bugs”
Incident Management System Activated
The City Council has developed a comprehensive Incident Action Plan to coordinate the response against the bed bug outbreak.
The system aims to ensure a swift and effective approach to containment and eradication of the pests.
Call for Support From Partners and Residents
The Harare City Council has also appealed to the private sector, partners, and individuals willing to assist in tackling the bed bug outbreak.
Those interested in offering support have been encouraged to contact the Incident Liaison Officer.
“Any partners, private sector or individuals who would like to offer their support in fighting this outbreak can get in touch with the Incident Liason Officer”
