Polokwane City will welcome Kaizer Chiefs at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium this Saturday.
The decision comes despite the new Peter Mokaba Stadium now being ready for football.
City and the Premier Soccer League agreed to stage the fixture at the older venue.
The choice could provide Rise and Shine with a valuable home advantage against Amakhosi.
Polokwane City could benefit from the smaller ground as they prepare for a difficult encounter.
Meanwhile, Kaizer Chiefs might have preferred the newer venue for their passing-based approach.
Fernando Da Cruz has encouraged a style built around possession and technical football.
Therefore, the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium could present different conditions for both teams.
Municipality confirms new stadium is ready
The new stadium missed the opening fixtures of the 2026/27 campaign.
However, Polokwane municipality has now confirmed that the facility can host matches.
Mantlako Sebaka, the municipality’s Sport and Recreation manager, confirmed its readiness to iDiski Times.
“The New Peter Mokaba Stadium is ready pitch wise, facility wise and amenity wise,” Sebaka told iDiski Times.
“So, we are good to go. And secondly, the Polokwane City football club match against Kaizer Chiefs football club is going to be played at the old stadium, a decision that was taken by the club together with the PSL.
“For us we had hoped that the match could be played in the new stadium but nevertheless Polokwane City is a club member of the PSL and Polokwane municipality is not a club member.
“We are just a host city discharging our responsibility of ensuring that the people of Polokwane and the surrounding they get to enjoy the sport and sport development in general.”
Chiefs will therefore travel to the old venue with three points firmly in their sights.
Amakhosi want another victory as they attempt to maintain pressure on Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates.
The Saturday afternoon fixture could consequently prove important for Chiefs’ early-season ambitions.
