Catholic Priest Father Regis Chikuni Was Killed In Hit-And-Run
New details have emerged surrounding the death of Roman Catholic priest Father Regis Chikuni, whose whereabouts had been unknown for several days before his body was discovered at the Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals mortuary.
Father Chikuni is believed to have been struck by a Honda Fit in a suspected hit-and-run accident while attempting to cross the road near the intersection of Prince Edward Road and Samora Machel Avenue in Harare.

Priest Had No Identification On Him
According to The Herald, police sources have indicated that Father Chikuni did not have identification particulars on him at the time of the accident.
Following the incident, his body was taken to the Parirenyatwa mortuary, where it remained unidentified as his family, friends and church colleagues were searching for him.
The circumstances surrounding the accident remain unclear, with police expected to provide further information as investigations continue.
Missing Report Had Been Made
Before the discovery of his body, the Archdiocese of Harare had raised the alarm over Father Chikuni’s disappearance.
During a Sunday Mass, an official communication issued on behalf of Archbishop Robert C. Ndlovu informed clergy and parishioners that the priest was unaccounted for.
A report was subsequently made to the police as efforts to locate him intensified.
His whereabouts were eventually established after his body was found at the hospital mortuary.
Archdiocese Confirms Tragic Discovery
The Archdiocese of Harare has since confirmed Father Chikuni’s death.
In a statement issued through the Archbishop’s Secretary, Father Ephraim Murwira, the church described his death as a tragic loss and said his pastoral service and contribution to the community would remain remembered.
The Archdiocese urged members of the Catholic community to pray and support one another during the period of mourning.
Funeral arrangements will be announced in due course.
Police Expected To Issue Statement
Although initial information points to a road accident involving a Honda Fit, several details surrounding the incident are still to be established.
Police are expected to issue a statement as investigations into the suspected hit-and-run continue.
