‘I want my money’: Club owner breathes fire as Zodwa Wabantu pulls a no-show

A club owner demands his cash back from popular socialite and dancer Zodwa Wabantu. Stenga Shabangu, owner of Stengas Place in Daveyton, Ekurhuleni, claimed that Zodwa took a booking fee but pulled a no-show.

He said Zodwa was booked to perform at Stengas Place on Saturday, 7 September but was nowhere to be found.

Stenga told the publication in June he and Zodwa agreed on a R13 000 performance fee.

He said he paid Zodwa R8 000 deposit in June and in July she demanded the R5 000 balance for her to do a promotional video for the event.

The balance was paid off and the SunTeam has seen proof of payment thereof.

Stenga said after Zodwa pulled a no-show, people were fighting with him saying he had scammed them. He asked Zodwa to do a video to apologise to fans.

The publication have seen both videos where Zodwa is promoting the event and also apologising.

Stenga said he doesn’t want to hear Zodwa’s stories. All he wants is his money back.

“I’m hurt she did this to me. What hurts me more is she didn’t communicate with us that she won’t be available,” Stenga said.

“She was the main act. I lost a lot of money that day as many people came, stood outside and said they would buy tickets only when they see her. Unfortunately, she didn’t show up.”

Stenga said every time he asks Zodwa to pay back the money, she keeps saying she’s still raising it.

“What’s confusing is that she has other bookings. Why can’t she use that money and pay me?”

Zodwa confirmed to the publication that she was paid booking fee, but said she won’t pay it back.

“I’m an ancestor’s child and when money comes in, there’s no way I can give it back because I have asked for it from my ancestors,” Zodwa said.

“He must give me a new date then. I’ll come to perform for the same amount. I didn’t attend his event because unfortunately it was on the same day as another gig that paid me well. I thought I would make it to his event but failed.”

The publication asked Stenga if he was willing to rebook Zodwa, and he said no. He said he only wants his money back.
