Police Recover Cash And Household Items

Investigators recovered US$20,450 in cash during the probe, together with a DStv decoder and a speaker which had reportedly been taken during the alleged robbery.

The recoveries formed part of the investigation into the incident, which was initially presented to police as an armed home invasion.

CID spokesperson Detective Inspector Rachel Muteweri said the case had since resulted in theft and false-report charges against the four suspects.

 Woman Reported Armed Attack

The robbery took place on 25 September 2026.

According to police, Muzvondiwa knew that her husband had US$30,000 and allegedly worked with the other three suspects to take the money.

She subsequently reported that armed men had entered her home while wearing balaclavas and confronted her at gunpoint.

Muzvondiwa allegedly told police that the attackers demanded money before leaving with US$30,000, a DStv decoder and a speaker.

 CID Investigation Uncovers Scheme

CID Homicide Harare took over the investigation after the report was made.

Muzvondiwa was brought in for questioning on Tuesday as detectives followed up on the circumstances surrounding the alleged robbery.

Further investigations allegedly linked her to the disappearance of the money and pointed to the robbery having been staged.

Police subsequently arrested Rice, Zuze and Hodhera as investigations continued.

Suspects Due In Court

The four suspects are expected to appear in court facing charges of theft and deliberately making a false report to authorities.

Detective Inspector Muteweri warned that deliberately giving false information to police can result in criminal charges.

“Making a false report to the police or deliberately supplying false information to the police is a chargeable offence,” she said.

Police also urged members of the public to avoid keeping large amounts of cash at home and advised those who receive substantial sums to deposit the money with a bank.
