‘I would be worse than Kim Jong Un’: Wicknell Chivayo’s old post resurfaces

Wicknell Chivayo’s old post has sparked debate after making a controversial statement about how he would rule Zimbabwe.

The businessman made the remarks while responding to a social media post about President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

Chivayo joked that he would become a brutal leader if he ever became president.

He even compared his imagined leadership style to North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

“I would be worse than Kim Jon Ung,” Chivayo wrote in the post.

He then threatened severe punishment against people who failed to follow his imagined rules.

Chivayo’s controversial presidential joke

Chivayo mentioned former opposition politician Fadzai Mahere and her political allies.

He wrote that he would place them before a firing squad after his inauguration.

He also referred to families without a picture of Baba Johanne visibly displayed in their homes.

According to his post, three generations would face punishment in such circumstances.

He further joked about roadblocks and religious songs.

“Ukamiswa pa roadblock ukangotadza kuimba Hossana mukuru, then life in jail,” he wrote.

However, Chivayo included several laughing emojis throughout the post.

That made it unclear whether he intended the remarks seriously or as political humour.

The post nevertheless attracted attention because of its references to executions and imprisonment.

Fadzai Mahere responds with an ubuntu message

Mahere later reshared a screenshot of Chivayo’s post on social media after the horror plane crash in Marondera that took Chivayo’s life.

She accompanied the screenshot with a short message about leadership and ubuntu.

“🔸Ubuntu Chapter 1, verse 1. We need new leaders.🇿🇼” Mahere wrote.

Her response has since added another layer to the online discussion.

Zimbabweans have consequently expressed differing views about the exchange.

Some users have treated Chivayo’s comments as humour.

Others have focused on the language surrounding violence, punishment and political opponents.

The exchange has therefore reignited conversations about political rhetoric and responsible leadership.

For now, Chivayo’s post remains framed as a hypothetical scenario rather than an announced political programme.
