Mbekezeli Mbokazi has made a remarkable return from injury, much earlier than initially expected.
The Chicago Fire defender completed 80 minutes during their MLS victory over Charlotte at the weekend.
His comeback provides a major boost for the club after his lengthy injury setback.
Mbokazi suffered a serious thigh injury in July and initially faced a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
However, the left-footed defender has recovered quickly and returned to competitive action ahead of schedule.
The defender also produced a crucial moment during the match against Charlotte.
He made a goal-line clearance that helped Chicago Fire protect their advantage and secure the victory.
Meanwhile, former Burnley and Orlando Pirates striker Lyle Foster made his Houston Dynamo debut.
Foster joined Houston Dynamo on loan from Championship club Burnley.
When could Mbokazi return to Bafana Bafana?
Mbokazi’s return could also interest new Bafana Bafana coach Pitso Mosimane.
South Africa have enjoyed a positive beginning under Mosimane after securing two AFCON qualifying victories.
However, Mbokazi will not feature when Bafana face Egypt in their upcoming friendly.
South Africa will meet Egypt on Sunday, October 4, with kick-off scheduled for 20:00.
The defender could instead target the November international window for his Bafana return.
South Africa are scheduled to face Kenya on November 11 in an AFCON qualifier.
Therefore, Mbokazi’s successful return gives Mosimane another defensive option before that crucial encounter.
Appollis continues to shine for Bafana and Pirates
While Mbokazi continues his recovery, Oswin Appollis has become an important attacking figure for South Africa.
The Orlando Pirates winger recently produced a stunning creative performance against Eritrea.
Appollis registered three assists during Bafana’s emphatic 5-0 victory on Wednesday.
Remarkably, he previously achieved the same feat against Congo in 2024.
His club form has also remained encouraging since the start of the Betway Premiership campaign.
Appollis has scored twice and provided two assists across seven league appearances.
Consequently, his form gives Mosimane another influential attacking option alongside the returning Mbokazi.
