Wicknell Chivayo Family Reveals Why There Will Be No Body Viewing

No Body Viewing For Wicknell Chivayo And Wife Lucy After Helicopter Crash

Mourners will not get an opportunity to view the bodies of businessman Wicknell Chivayo and his wife, Lucy Muteke, before their burial following the fatal helicopter accident in Marondera.

The family says the extensive damage suffered by the remains has made a traditional body viewing impossible.

Family Explains Decision

Speaking to mourners gathered at Chivayo’s Gletwin mansion on Friday evening, family spokesperson Hebert Chivayo gave an account of what relatives encountered when they reached the crash site.

The helicopter came down at Kudenga Farm after encountering bad weather while travelling from Chivhu towards Harare.

Hebert said the impact and subsequent fire left the victims with devastating injuries.

“When we arrived at the scene, human flesh and body parts were scattered everywhere. It was a gory scene.

“Even the heads were severed during the accident and bodies were badly burnt,” he said.

The condition of the remains means that relatives will not be able to hold a body-viewing ceremony for Wicknell and Lucy.

Burial Arrangements

Wicknell and Lucy are expected to be laid to rest on Thursday, October 8, at Glen Forest Cemetery in Harare.

The family has confirmed that the burial will not be restricted to relatives and close friends, with members of the public welcome to attend and pay their final respects to the couple.
