Khama Billiat’s boss opens free medical & maternity centre to help pregnant women
Khama Billiat’s boss, Pedzai ‘Scott’ Sakupwanya, has opened a free medical and maternity centre to help pregnant women and vulnerable patients in Mabvuku and nearby suburbs.
The facility, known as Scottland Medical Centre & Maternity, has been operational since March. It offers completely free medical services to expecting mothers, elderly patients with chronic conditions, and others who can’t afford private healthcare.
Locals flood free facility
The centre has been receiving high praise online and on the ground.
“We serve an average of 100 patients per day,”
said Sister Emma Jakachira, the Nurse In Charge.
“Most of our clients are elderly patients with chronic conditions. We give them free medication. The maternity wing is also busy — we’re getting about 15 bookings per day.”
Demand has risen so fast that Sakupwanya is now buying properties around the hospital to expand.
“We need more space. The community needs this,”
Jakachira added.
A video shared on Twitter by @ScottlandFC on 27 April 2025 showed expectant mothers, nurses, and residents at the facility.

Public divided online
The move has triggered a wave of online reactions, ranging from applause to scepticism.
@Keithteem said:
“Like it or not, honestly, this is beautiful. MP is working hard. He deserves to be in Parliament.”
@carolkeke2 questioned other leaders:
“Well done MP. Ko maPM ekuCrowhill mune chokwadi here?”
But not everyone is convinced.
@Chinyamatikiti warned:
“That one is just a clinic. As soon as public hospitals completely collapse, they’ll start to charge.”
@IrvenMoyo compared it to Libya under Gaddafi:
“If the elite want to steal, make sure hospitals are working and medication is free. We don’t care how much you steal.”
Others asked why such services weren’t being provided by the government itself.
@ndou_tshepang wrote:
“We don’t want individuals to do this for us. We need the government to do so. It’s their duty.”
Is it enough?
Sakupwanya, who also owns Scottland Football Club, has remained silent on social media regarding the reaction. However, many agree that the services are helping — especially in areas where clinics are under-resourced.
With hundreds now turning up daily, and the centre expanding, many are watching closely to see whether it stays free — and whether others will follow suit.
