CoGTA to discuss issues related to governance in KwaZulu-Natal

The Parliamentary Committee on Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs is visiting several municipalities in KwaZulu-Natal to discuss issues related to governance.The committee will also engage communities on basic services including water challenges.

The committee will visit the eThekwini Metro followed by the uMsunduzi Municipality on Wednesday and the Ugu District and the uMhlathuze municipalities on Thursday.

The committee’s Chairperson Dr Zweli Mkhize says the eThekwini Metro has numerous problems including water supply interruptions, poorly maintained and damaged infrastructure as well as a decline in tourism.

“There have been challenges in governance in Ethekwini which has necessitated the need for the president to institute a team to go and help to support the municipality, we are also aware that there have been changes in the leadership but in particular we have seen the report for the auditor general that indicating that the financial management issue they need to be looked at, that also, most of the financial management weaknesses that they have seen, it also going to do political interferences
