Former ZANU PF Mashonaland West provincial chairman Temba Mliswa has endorsed the party’s decision to postpone its extraordinary politburo meeting.
Mliswa described the move as “not only correct, but necessary”, while suggesting it prevented an alleged attempt to undermine President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
The meeting had been scheduled for Friday, 9 October 2026. However, the ruling party postponed it without immediately announcing a replacement date.
On Friday night, ZANU PF Secretary for Information and Publicity Christopher Mutsvangwa confirmed the postponement. He said the party would announce a new date in due course.
Meanwhile, the party’s Director for Information and Publicity, Farai Marapira, attributed the cancellation to a “clash of programmes, but nothing serious”.
However, Mliswa offered a different explanation for the development. In a post on X, he alleged that postponing the meeting had protected Mnangagwa from a “self-serving Gang of Four”.
He identified ZANU PF Secretary for Legal Affairs Ziyambi Ziyambi as one of the alleged faction’s members.
Mliswa Alleges Plot Against Mnangagwa
Mliswa claimed the group intended to introduce major changes without securing the necessary consultations with the party’s leadership.
“This clique, which has never been sincere in its support for the 2030 agenda and CAB3, sought yesterday to ambush the Politburo with a raft of far-reaching measures that neither the President as First Secretary of the Party, nor the Secretary General, had been privy to,” Mliswa wrote.
He argued that the proposed measures did not represent the party’s official position. Instead, he accused the group of attempting to bypass established procedures for its own political advantage.
“These were not party positions; they were the product of power-hungry scheming by a group intent on cornering due process. It is precisely that irregularity which was detected, resisted, and which necessitated the postponement of the meeting.
“In essence, what was thwarted was a procedural coup against the President, an ill-conceived move that was seen through long before it could be executed, and duly blocked.”
Mliswa’s remarks therefore presented the postponement as a victory for Mnangagwa. However, his allegations have not been independently established.

Mawarire Links Cancellation to Constitutional Dispute
Mliswa made his comments while responding to claims by Jealousy Mawarire, a former spokesperson for the National Patriotic Front (NPF).
The NPF was associated with former President Robert Mugabe following his removal from power in November 2017.
Mawarire alleged that disagreements over proposed changes caused Friday’s meeting to collapse.
According to his account, Vice President Constantino Chiwenga declared the proposed changes illegal. Mawarire claimed they relied on provisions of what he described as an illegally amended national constitution.
The competing explanations have placed fresh attention on disagreements within ZANU PF over its internal processes and proposed constitutional changes.
While party officials cited scheduling difficulties, Mliswa alleged that political manoeuvring prompted the postponement. Mawarire, meanwhile, attributed the dispute to constitutional concerns.
ZANU PF has yet to announce the rescheduled meeting date. The party’s next steps could clarify the circumstances surrounding the postponement.
