A 33-year-old Harare man has appeared in court facing 10 armed robbery charges over allegations that he and his accomplices terrorised residents during a series of home invasions between July and September 2026. The suspects allegedly used pistols, machetes and iron bars to threaten residents before stealing cash, electronics, jewellery and other household valuables.
Chamunorwa Takawira appeared at the Harare Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 19 October 2026, following his arrest on Saturday. He is expected to return to court on 27 October.
Harare Armed Robbery Cases Involve Thousands Of US Dollars
The State alleges that Takawira and his accomplices, including John Nhira, who remains at large, targeted several homes across Harare.
In one alleged robbery in Houghton Park on 6 August, the suspects reportedly stole US$3,000, alongside mobile phones, laptops, jewellery and other valuables.
Another alleged incident occurred on 1 September at the home of Samuel Pardon Dandira. The suspects allegedly entered the property armed with two pistols, a machete and an iron bar.
They reportedly took US$3,620, as well as mobile phones, clothes, shoes, groceries and other household items.
The complainants were allegedly locked inside a bedroom while the suspects escaped in a black Honda Fit.
Arrest Follows Police Pursuit In Seke
Takawira was arrested at Murisa Park Extension in Seke after detectives tracked him down. He allegedly tried to escape and was shot in the leg before being apprehended.
The case follows an earlier arrest in 2021, when Takawira was implicated alongside other suspected armed robbers.
The latest proceedings are expected to continue on 27 October 2026. The allegations remain before the courts, and the outcome of the case is yet to be determined.
