Marry Mubaiwa Speaks Out About Chiwenga As Long-Running Case Takes New Turn
Marry Mubaiwa has broken her silence about her marriage to Vice President Constantino Chiwenga, describing the relationship as painful and alleging that years of pethidine use contributed to her health problems. She also spoke about her separation from their children and her belief that her former husband knew she had not attempted to kill him.
Her interview with journalist Simba Chikanza comes after she was removed from remand on Tuesday, 27 October 2026, following seven years in an attempted murder case. Mubaiwa, who was arrested in late 2019, has now publicly shared her account of the marriage and the events that followed its breakdown.
Marry Mubaiwa Makes Pethidine Allegations Against Chiwenga
Mubaiwa alleged that Chiwenga used pethidine, a restricted pain medication, and that he arranged for her to receive injections administered by a military nurse.
She claimed the practice continued for years and affected her physical and mental health. Mubaiwa also alleged that the medication contributed to the loss of her hand and foot, both of which were amputated.
“Chiwenga destroyed my mental health, my health and this is a man I took care of,” she said.
She further claimed that she received a break from the injections only when she became pregnant. These allegations have not been independently established.
Mubaiwa Speaks About Children And Painful Marriage Breakdown
The former couple married customarily in 2011 and had three children together. Mubaiwa also has two children from a previous marriage.
She said she had gone seven years without seeing or speaking to her children with Chiwenga.
“I just want my children, my house and cars. If you wanted someone to just bear you kids I would have said no,” she said.
Mubaiwa maintained that she had a life of her own before meeting Chiwenga, including cars and financial independence. She said she no longer loved him and described the marriage’s ending as painful.
Marry Mubaiwa Denies Attempted Murder Allegations
Mubaiwa was arrested in 2019 over allegations that she attempted to kill Chiwenga by disconnecting medical equipment while he was receiving treatment at a South African health facility.
She denied the accusation in her interview, saying:
“Wherever he is, Chiwenga knows I never tried to kill him.”
She also criticised the case’s prolonged duration and said she believed Chiwenga should be held accountable for accusing her of trying to kill him.
Her removal from remand is a significant development in the seven-year case, although it does not, by itself, establish that she has been acquitted.
Mubaiwa’s interview provides her perspective on the marriage, her health and the family separation.
