Nelson Chamisa Condemns Demolitions In Dema, Accuses Government Of Destroying People’s Livelihoods
Opposition politician Nelson Chamisa has criticised the demolition of structures in Dema, describing the exercise as cruel and inhumane and accusing those responsible of destroying the livelihoods of ordinary citizens.
Chamisa raised the issue in a post on X, where he shared a video showing structures being demolished in the area.
He questioned why people who had invested their savings, time and resources into building homes and establishing businesses were being subjected to demolitions at such a late stage.

Chamisa Speaks Out Against Dema Demolitions
In his post, Chamisa argued that the affected people were hardworking citizens trying to earn an honest living rather than criminals.
He said the demolitions had wiped out investments and threatened livelihoods that residents had worked hard to establish.
“THE UNELECTABLE ARE HEARTLESS…This is cruel, heartless and deeply inhumane. No government should subject its own citizens to such treatment,” he wrote.
Chamisa further questioned the decision to allow people to invest in properties and businesses before moving in to demolish their structures.
He said the affected residents had committed their life savings and other resources to their investments, only to have their efforts destroyed.
“You allow innocent, hardworking citizens to invest their life savings, time and resources into building structures and establishing honest livelihoods. Then, at this late stage, you descend upon them with demolitions, destroying their investments, livelihoods and hopes for the future.
These are people trying to eke out an honest living, not criminals. Their dignity, rights and livelihoods must be respected and protected.”
Chamisa Calls For Demolitions To Stop
The former opposition leader called for an end to the demolitions, insisting that citizens’ rights, dignity and livelihoods should be protected.
He urged those in positions of responsibility to prioritise protecting people’s investments instead of taking actions that leave them without the means to sustain themselves.
“Stop this madness. Stop the violations. Stop the persecution. Responsible leaders must protect citizens, not destroy them and decimating livelihoods citizens worked so hard to build,” Chamisa added.
