Chatunga Mugabe Faces Additional Robbery Charge In ZACC Investigator Assault Case

Chatunga Mugabe and Four Others Charged With Robbery And Malicious Damage After Alleged ZACC Assault

Bellarmine Chatunga Mugabe, the son of Zimbabwe’s late former president Robert Mugabe, is facing an additional robbery charge following his appearance in court alongside four co-accused over the alleged assault of a Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) investigator.

The 29-year-old and the four men appeared at the Harare Magistrates Court on Thursday, where they faced charges of robbery and malicious damage to property arising from an incident at Brompton Guest Lodge in Newlands.

Court papers also identified the four men arrested alongside Chatunga as individuals connected to his family, with three reportedly working as security guards at Iron Mask Farm in Mazowe.

ZACC Investigator Allegedly Assaulted During Surveillance Operation

The charges stem from an alleged attack on Panyika Lloyd Mupanduki, a 42-year-old ZACC investigator who was conducting surveillance on two vehicles suspected of being smuggled.

According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), Mupanduki was carrying a Norinco Star pistol when he was allegedly confronted by Chatunga and the four other accused at the guest lodge on Tuesday.

The prosecution alleges that the five men assaulted the investigator using open hands and broomsticks.

During the incident, one of the accused allegedly took possession of Mupanduki’s firearm, which was loaded with 11 rounds of ammunition.

His Samsung A56 mobile phone was also allegedly removed from his pocket before being smashed on the ground.

Investigator Hospitalised After Sustaining Head Injury

The alleged assault left Mupanduki with a deep cut to his forehead, resulting in heavy bleeding.

The NPA said the investigator was receiving medical treatment at a local hospital following the incident.

Police arrested all five suspects at the scene. The firearm was subsequently recovered from Chinyemba, who is listed as the second accused in the matter.

The prosecution also indicated that there were witnesses who saw the accused allegedly committing the offences and are expected to give evidence in court.

Four Co-Accused Linked To Mugabe Family Farm

Court documents shed light on the identities and alleged roles of the four men arrested alongside Chatunga.

Chinyemba, Peter and Pamire were identified as security guards employed at Iron Mask Farm in Mazowe, while Mubhawo, who provided a South African address, was described as a security aide.

Chatunga was listed as the first accused in the case.

The five men were remanded in custody until Friday, when they are expected to apply for bail.
