Zimbabwean football fans are celebrating after Andy Rinomhota won Cardiff City’s Players’ Player of the Season award.

The 27-year-old midfielder-turned-right-back earned the prestigious honour following a standout campaign that saw him rise from a benchwarmer to one of the club’s most consistent performers.

Adapting and Excelling in a New Role

Although Rinomhota is traditionally a midfielder, he spent much of the season playing at right-back — a role in which he quickly adapted and thrived. Speaking after he was nominated, Cardiff City acknowledged his positional switch, saying:

“Another versatile option in the City squad, Andy has played predominantly at right-back this term, adapting to his new position with ease. Appearing 27 times in the league this season, the Zimbabwe international has found his feet in an unfamiliar role, delivering consistent defensive performances.”

He also contributed one assist, setting up Callum O’Dowda’s goal during an away fixture at Fratton Park in February.

Recognition From His Peers

Rinomhota’s efforts did not go unnoticed by his teammates, who voted him as their standout performer for the season. While he was also nominated for the club’s overall Player of the Season award, that honour ultimately went to Callum Robinson.
