Zimbabwe Police Reveal More Details on the Tragic Kwekwe Accident That Claimed 12 Lives
The Zimbabwe Republic Police has provided more details about the horrific road accident near Kwekwe that claimed the lives of 12 people.
The fatal crash, which involved a fuel tanker, a two-tonne truck, and a Nissan AD van, has shocked the nation.

Police Confirm Fatal Accident on Harare-Bulawayo Road
In a statement posted on their X account, the police disclosed that tragic incident took place at the 200-kilometre peg along the Harare-Bulawayo Road, near Kwekwe.
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms a fatal road traffic accident which occurred at the 200 kilometre peg along Harare-Bulawayo Road near Kwekwe on 27th May 2025 in the morning.”
Police Details How The Tragic Accident Happpened
The accident happened after a petrol tanker with two trailers collided with a two-tonne truck and a Nissan AD Van carrying 12 occupants.
According to the police statement, the fuel tanker, which was travelling from Harare towards Kwekwe, first sideswiped the two-tonne truck coming from the opposite direction. It then crashed head-on into the Nissan AD Van, dragging it for several metres before overturning and landing on top of it.
“12 people were killed when a petrol tanker with two trailers, two-tonne truck and Nissan AD Van with 12 occupants collided near Sebakwe River.
The fuel tanker first hit the two-tonne truck as it was going in the opposite direction. It then had a head on collision with the AD Van going in the opposite direction. Subsequently, the tanker dragged the AD Van for several metres and then overturned before falling on top of the AD Van.
The fuel tanker was travelling from Harare towards Kwekwe.”
All 12 Victims Trapped and Killed as Tanker Crushes Vehicle in Kwekwe Accident
Tragically, all twelve people in the Nissan AD Van lost their lives in the horrific crash. The victims were reportedly trapped inside the vehicle after the tanker overturned and fell on top of it. Their bodies were later taken to Kwekwe General Hospital for post-mortem examinations.
