Hell on Earth? Zimbabwe’s October heatwave revealed

Zimbabwe has endured an intense October heatwave, with temperatures reaching an alarming 44 degrees Celsius in some areas.

The Meteorological Services Department (MSD) has revealed exceptionally high readings across several parts of the country.

Beitbridge recorded the highest temperature at 44°C, while Gwanda, Binga, Kariba and Buffalo Range reached 41°C.

Meanwhile, Chisumbanje and Zaka recorded maximum temperatures of 40°C. These readings highlight the severity of the October heat spell.

The department attributed the scorching conditions to dry, hot air covering much of the country.

Consequently, residents have been urged to take precautions against dehydration and other heat-related complications.

These Zimbabwean Areas Recorded the Highest Temperatures

The MSD’s weather reports show how intensely the heat has affected different parts of Zimbabwe.

Beitbridge topped the reported readings at 44°C, making it one of the country’s hottest locations.

Kariba and Binga also experienced particularly uncomfortable conditions, with temperatures reaching 41°C.

Furthermore, the department warned that low-lying areas could experience especially high afternoon temperatures.

Earlier, the MSD forecast very hot conditions nationwide between October 18 and 20.

It also highlighted the Zambezi and Save valleys as particularly vulnerable areas.

MSD Issues Warning as Heatwave Continues

The department has urged Zimbabweans to drink sufficient water and limit exposure to direct sunlight.

Residents should also wear sunhats and use umbrellas when spending time outdoors.

Additionally, people should avoid strenuous activities during the hottest hours whenever possible.

Farmers have also been encouraged to monitor crops for signs of heat stress.

Livestock and domestic animals should receive sufficient drinking water throughout the day.

The MSD has further warned against starting outdoor fires during the hot, dry conditions.

Windy weather could cause fires to spread rapidly, creating additional dangers for communities.

With temperatures soaring across the country, residents have been encouraged to follow official weather updates.

The department’s warnings highlight the importance of protecting people, animals and crops during extreme heat.
