Peter Ndlovu enjoyed a dream introduction as Scottland FC’s interim head coach on Thursday. The Zimbabwean football legend guided his side to a crucial 1-0 victory over CAPS United.
Emmanuel Jalai delivered the decisive moment, finding the net in the sixth minute. His early strike secured all three points for Scottland in Harare.
The victory also gave Ndlovu an immediate boost following his promotion from team manager. He now faces the challenge of keeping the ambitious club competitive throughout the 2026 season.
Peter Ndlovu celebrates winning coaching debut
Ndlovu could hardly have wished for a better start to his new assignment. His team responded positively despite the pressure surrounding the recent managerial changes.
Scottland needed maximum points to maintain their pursuit of Castle Lager Premier Soccer League leaders Hardrock FC. Consequently, Thursday’s victory carried significant importance for their domestic ambitions.
Ndlovu inherited the coaching position after Norman Mapeza’s departure. The former Warriors captain must now translate his football experience into results from the technical area.
However, the victory against CAPS United represents an encouraging first step. Scottland will hope their new interim coach can build momentum and deliver consistent performances.
Ndlovu inherits big responsibility after Mapeza departure
Scottland appointed Ndlovu following their disappointing CAF Champions League campaign. Mapeza left after the Zimbabwean champions suffered elimination against Angola’s Petro de Luanda.
Scottland had surrendered a two-goal advantage from the first leg. Petro de Luanda eventually progressed after securing a 3-2 aggregate victory.
The club subsequently restructured its technical department and handed Ndlovu temporary leadership. According to The Herald, Danger Fourpence will assist him after earning promotion from the academy.
Meanwhile, veteran striker Knowledge Musona has assumed additional responsibilities as a player-assistant coach.
Ndlovu holds a CAF A Coaching Licence despite his limited senior managerial experience. His playing achievements and previous involvement at Mamelodi Sundowns also strengthen his credentials.
Nevertheless, the former Warriors captain faces considerable expectations. Scottland owner Scott Sakupwanya has invested heavily in assembling a competitive squad.
Therefore, Ndlovu must deliver results while restoring confidence following Mapeza’s departure. His winning debut has provided the perfect platform to begin that mission.
