Harare Killer Pitbull Owner Is a Serial Criminal
A Harare man whose pitbulls mauled his neighbour to death on Sunday morning, 1 June 2025, is not just a careless dog owner — he’s allegedly a seasoned criminal.
Mike Mupinga (40) was arrested and charged with culpable homicide after his pitbulls brutally attacked 39-year-old Samuel Machara, killing him near Mupinga’s Mabelreign home. Police confirmed the arrest but didn’t say much beyond that.
“On 01/06/25, ZRP Mabelreign arrested Mike Mupinga (40) in connection with a case of culpable homicide which occurred at the suspect’s residence in Mabelreign. The case stems from an incident where his pit-bull dogs allegedly attacked and mauled Samuel Machara (39) to death. on 01/06/25. The body of the victim was found near the suspect’s residence with dog bite wounds. The body was referred to the Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals mortuary for postmortem.”

Local journalist and neighbour Maynard Manyowa didn’t hold back. He expressed shock and anger, saying the tragedy could have been avoided if the justice system had done its job.
According to Manyowa, Mupinga has a long list of pending cases, including car theft and illegal firearm possession. He was baffled how someone facing such serious allegations was walking free.
“He was arrested very recently for a serious theft of a motor vehicle case and should not have been on bail. This is him in red at Mabelreign Police Station. Why was he released? Where is that case? Why was he roaming free to begin with? He has a bunch of cases against him. One involving a firearm. He basically sells fraudulent cars that are hijacked and smuggled from SA. VTS have a file as thick as my thigh about him,” Manyowa said.
Maynard also said Mupinga’s dogs were known to be aggressive and had caused problems before, but nothing was done.
“His dogs have been a menace in the neighbourhood. You are an absolute letdown!” Manyowa added.

Shocking Past: Sexual Assault and Attempted Murder Allegations
Digging even deeper, investigative platform We Dug Up revealed that Mupinga has been reported for two cases of sexual assault and an attempted murder involving a gun. They questioned why none of this prevented him from being out in public.
“He has been reported for sexual assault twice and attempted murder, with one of those cases involving a gun,” the platform said on X.
Mike Mupinga is being charged with culpable homicide in this instance but police have not said anything about his other cases or why he was out on roaming free before today’s tragedy.

At the time of writing, ZRP has only acknowledged Mupinga’s arrest for the pitbull attack. They’ve said nothing about his other alleged crimes or why someone with such a troubling history was allowed to roam free in the community.
