Documents reveal that in 2019, Billiat entered into a deal with Standard Bank to buy the Range Rover, agreeing to pay monthly instalments of R37,000 over 71 months. The terms clearly stated that the vehicle would remain the bank’s property until all payments were settled.

When City Press shared this news on X on Sunday, 8 June 2025, it quickly sparked a wave of reactions. Many questioned Billiat’s financial judgment, with some saying it was obvious he would eventually disappear with the car. Others criticised the article for dragging Kaizer Chiefs’ name into the controversy, wondering why the football club was mentioned at all.

Here are some of the responses from social media users:

@JinglesNyathi:

No matter how much he was earning, a R37k monthly instalment, just a crazy decision.

@Rhoyi_Masoka:

Did you have to include Kaizer Chiefs in your nonsense?

@mpho3435:

Already in Zimbabwe.

@okay_and_then:

😂 not surprised at all.

@Makhetha57060:

I’m wondering as well, what does Kaizer Chiefs have to do with this story?

Another Debt, More Trouble

In a related development, Billiat, who now plays for Scottland FC in Zimbabwe’s Castle Lager Premier Soccer League, reportedly owes Standard Bank approximately R372,066 from a separate overdraft credit facility granted in 2020. Although he made his last payment in 2023, he was expected to pay between R80,000 and R90,000 monthly, but failed to keep up with the repayments. Attempts by a Johannesburg High Court sheriff to deliver a summons have been unsuccessful, as Billiat is said to no longer be residing in South Africa.
