Caught with Loot While Trying to Flee
According to B-Metro, the thefts took place last week at lodges owned by Byron Rice. Sibanda, who had checked in like any other guest, was nabbed while attempting to flee with his “loot,” which included towels, bed linen, bulbs, a solar panel, a cup, and a plate.
He was apprehended by vigilant lodge security with help from the neighbourhood watch committee.
He was arrested by armed detectives and taken to court, where he pleaded guilty. Fortunately, all stolen items were recovered
Court Rejects Sympathy Plea
Sibanda appeared before Magistrate Eva Matura.
In a bid to earn sympathy, Sibanda told the court he was not married but had a 6-year-old child to care for. He also claimed he only stole the goods because he “wanted to use them.”
The magistrate was unmoved, and the court proceeded with sentencing.
He received a 12-month prison sentence. However, three months were suspended for five years, while the remaining nine months were converted to 315 hours of community service at Siyazama Primary School.
