Mai TT Hit with US$100,000 Defamation Lawsuit
Comedienne Mai TT, is facing a US$100,000 lawsuit after Harare businesswoman Shingai Ziwange-Jere accused her of defamation of character.
Ziwange-Jere, who is married to Murehwa West legislator and CAPS United owner Farai Jere, filed the claim through her lawyers, Rubaya and Chatambudza Legal Practitioners.
Accusations of Death Threats and Judicial Manipulation
The lawsuit arises from a post published on Mai TT’s official Facebook page, Mai T’s Diaries, in which she alleged that Ziwange-Jere had threatened her with death and was manipulating Zimbabwe’s judicial system to serve her own interests.

According to the lawyers, the statements were “fabricated”, “malicious”, and aimed solely at tarnishing Ziwange-Jere’s reputation.

Twelve-Hour Ultimatum Issued
In a letter of demand served on Mai TT on Friday evening, Ziwange-Jere’s lawyers demanded an immediate retraction.
“There was no iota of truth whatsoever in the statements you made, which were obviously intended to solely sully and tarnish our client’s reputation and esteem,” the letter reads.
The lawyers further stated:
“Our client believes that your statements were motivated not only by malice but also by a desire for followers, clout, views, and likes… They resemble a script from a fictional neo-noir African movie.”
Mai TT was given twelve hours to issue a full, unconditional, and unreserved withdrawal of the posts, including an expression of regret.
Damage to Reputation and Global Reach
Ziwange-Jere’s legal team argued that Mai TT’s accusations had caused widespread damage, not only within Zimbabwe but internationally.
“Our client has very strong national and robust international business ties, links and partnerships… your accusations, which have reached a global reach, have demeaned and tarnished her status and severely damaged her major asset, which is her reputation,” the letter stated.
Despite Mai TT’s attempts to delete some of the posts and comments, the lawyers said the digital footprint remains and continues to harm their client.
“The publication of the statements you made about our client are malicious, harmful and injurious,” the lawyers insisted.
Allegations of Sadfishing and Proxy Wars
The letter also accused Mai TT of using social media to “sadfish”—the act of posting exaggerated emotional content to attract sympathy—and to wage a proxy war with her erstwhile enemies.
“The overall tenor of your ill-founded social media rants is that you are sadfishing and using our client to fight a proxy war with your erstwhile enemies, and our client will not take this lying low,” the letter warned.
The matter is expected to proceed if Mai TT fails to comply with the demands.
