Rhulani Mokwena Brings Trusted Backroom Staff to MC Alger

South African coach Rhulani Mokwena has officially joined Algerian champions Mouloudia Alger, putting an end to weeks of speculation about his next destination for the upcoming 2025/26 season.

Mokwena Joins MC Alger

Mokwena makes the move to Algeria after just one season with Moroccan side Wydad Casablanca. His time there ended on a low note after Wydad finished third in the domestic league and missed out on CAF Champions League qualification.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns coach won’t be the only familiar face in the Algerian top flight. Two ex-South African Premier Soccer League coaches are already making their mark in the league.

Josef Zinnbauer, the former Orlando Pirates boss, took JS Kabylie to second place last season and secured a Champions League spot. Meanwhile, Sead Ramovic, who previously coached TS Galaxy, steered Chabab Belouizdad to third place and into the CAF Confederation Cup.

Rhulani Mokwena Brings His Own Technical Team to MC Alger

Mokwena’s backroom team at MC Alger is starting to take shape. Speaking to Unplayable, the 38-year-old confirmed that Belgian coach Enzo Donis, currently the Togo national team assistant and a set-piece specialist, will join him in Algiers.

In addition, Mokwena is bringing along South African goalkeeper coach Wendell Robinson from Amazulu and fitness coach Sibusiso Mahlangu. However, MC Alger management will also add a few local Algerians to the technical setup.

Fans React with Advice and Scepticism

Following the announcement, football fans on social media reacted with a mix of advice, sarcasm, and concerns about Mokwena’s coaching style and staff selections.

Here are some of the comments:

@OfficialHeadboy:

A couple of Algerians? Don’t they mean spies, Hosi?

@the_quiet_rori:

And he’s also gonna pay him from his personal account.

@TeddySibiya2:

He must keep away from Club Legends.

@TteeThabo:

He loves these setpiece specialists. He once scammed sundowns with some guy going by the name of Michael Loftman. Wow what a scam that bro was and still is.
