Contractors working on the Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa Law School in Kwekwe have stepped up their efforts by introducing night shifts, all in a bid to finish the first phase of construction before the August deadline.

The goal is to have the main building ready before the Midlands State University (MSU) graduation ceremony, which will be held at the site in September.

The university leadership says most of the critical work has been done, with only final touches remaining. Acting Vice Chancellor, Professor Grace Mugumbate, said the construction had reached an advanced stage, with all materials now on site. She explained that only tasks like window fittings, roofing, plumbing, and roads were left before the building could be used.

“Every material is now on site, we are only left with fitting the windows and roofing, which we hope will be done in the next two weeks. We aim to fix the road infrastructure as well as do the necessary plumbing for the facility to be usable,” the institution’s acting vice chancellor, Professor Grace Mugumbate, said.

Government Impressed With Fast Progress

The government has expressed satisfaction with how quickly the project is moving, saying it reflects the success of the Second Republic’s development priorities under National Development Strategy One (NDS1).

Midlands Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Owen Ncube, said the pace and quality of work reflect President Mnangagwa’s leadership. He also thanked local supporters for donating building materials like bricks and cement, urging community leaders to prepare for a grand graduation ceremony.

“Ladies and Gentlemen, the high standards being achieved here at ED Mnangagwa Law school symbolise His Excellency, the President’s unquestionable leadership skills. In this regard, allow me to commend all patriotic stakeholders who supported the Mnangagwa law school project with essential building materials such as cement and bricks, among other supplies. I call upon the district and state occasions committees to thoroughly prepare for the graduation ceremony and project commissioning in liaison with the Midlands State University,” Midlands Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Honourable Owen Ncube, said.

Once completed, the ED Mnangagwa Law School will become the largest law school in Zimbabwe. It will feature modern facilities such as a moot court and an electronic library, raising the bar for legal education in the country.
