Zimbabwe Court Remands Robert Mugabe’s Son On Drug Possession
Robert Mugabe Junior, the 33-year-old son of the late former president Robert Mugabe, is set to spend his second night in custody. This comes after a Harare court postponed a decision on his bail application until Friday, 3 October 2025. He was arrested on 1 October during a police traffic operation in Harare and charged with unlawful possession of dagga.
Arrest During Traffic Blitz
According to ZimLive, Mugabe was intercepted while driving a silver Honda Fit against traffic along 2nd Street Extension. He was taken into custody after a search revealed suspicious items.
Prosecutor Mandirasa Chigumira told the court:
“Upon searching the accused’s black sling bag, police officers recovered two sachets of dagga, one pack of Rizla, and a white dagga crusher.”
Chigumira also confirmed that Mugabe refused to sign the seizure receipt that officers issued to him.
Dagga Valued At US$30
The seized dagga was later weighed at Harare Main Post. The prosecutor revealed that the total amounted to two grams with an estimated street value of US$30 (about R550). He added:
“The seized dagga can be tendered in court as an exhibit.”
Chigumira urged the magistrate to deny Mugabe’s immediate release, stressing that “the accused acted unlawfully.”
Remanded In Custody
Magistrate Lisa Mutendereki remanded Mugabe in custody until Friday, when his bail application will be heard. He appeared in court on Thursday, 2 October 2025, represented by lawyer Ashiel Mugiya.
Mugabe, who resides at 25 Budleigh Close in Helensview, Borrowdale, is reported to be unemployed at present.
The court proceedings will continue with the ruling on bail expected at the end of the week.
