Kaizer Chiefs and Stellenbosch FC Set to Cash In After Reaching CAF Confederation Cup Group Stages

South African football giants Kaizer Chiefs and Stellenbosch FC have both qualified for the CAF Confederation Cup group stages, positioning themselves to earn millions that could be reinvested into their clubs.

Amakhosi secured their spot after eliminating Angolan side Kabuscorp and Democratic Republic of Congo outfit AS Simba in the preliminary rounds.

For Stellenbosch, this marks another significant step in their continental journey, as they aim to surpass last season’s semi-final finish.

Kaizer Chiefs Return to Continental Action

For Kaizer Chiefs, this achievement represents a triumphant return to continental competition. The club last featured in 2021 when they reached the CAF Champions League final, only to lose to Pitso Mosimane’s Al Ahly.

This time, the Soweto giants are eyeing the Confederation Cup trophy and the financial rewards that come with it.

Guaranteed Payouts for Group Stage Qualification

By qualifying for the group stages, both Chiefs and Stellies are already guaranteed a minimum of US$400,000 (R6.8 million) — the amount given to clubs finishing third or fourth in their groups.

If either side progresses to the quarter-finals by finishing in the top two positions, they stand to earn US$550,000 (R9.4 million).

Such financial rewards will come as a major boost for both clubs, providing vital resources for player development, infrastructure, and operations.

CAF Increases Financial Support Under Motsepe

Under the leadership of CAF president Dr. Patrice Motsepe, the continental football body has taken significant steps to enhance prize money and support for clubs competing in both the CAF Champions League and the CAF Confederation Cup.

CAF’s renewed financial model aims to make participation more sustainable, rewarding clubs for their performances and investment in African football.

Group Stage Draw Set for Monday in Johannesburg

The group stage draw is scheduled to take place in Johannesburg on Monday, where both Kaizer Chiefs and Stellenbosch FC will discover their group opponents.

With millions on the line and a chance to make history, both clubs will be hoping for favourable draws as they embark on the next phase of their continental campaigns.
