A prominent Harare socialite has recounted a harrowing tale of being drugged, assaulted, and callously dumped after a night out at two of the city’s most fashionable venues, leading to a man appearing in court on serious charges.
The evening began like any other for the well-known socialite, who was enjoying drinks with a group of friends at the popular La Parada restaurant and nightclub. The group later decided to move their festivities to the equally trendy Karma Night Club. It was there, amidst the pulsating music and crowds, that the situation took a terrifying turn. The complainant had briefly stepped away to use the facilities, and upon her return, she discovered her friends had already departed. Standing near her table was Campbell Nyakudya with an unidentified woman.
Unaware of the danger she was in, the socialite picked up her glass and continued to drink as she attempted to locate her companions. What happened next remains a blur. She stated,
“I don’t remember anything else which followed. It was as if a switch had been flipped, and everything went black.”

Her next memory was waking up in a state of utter confusion and vulnerability at Chisipite Shopping Centre, her body barely covered by a piece of cloth, with no recollection of how she got there.

The bewildered woman was approached by concerned individuals at the shopping centre who had witnessed the shocking conclusion to her ordeal. They explained that they had seen her being pushed out of a moving vehicle. One witness recounted,
“She was pushed out of a moving car. It happened so fast, and the car sped off immediately. We didn’t manage to capture the registration number.”
The vehicle disappeared into the night, leaving the victim stranded and disoriented. It was then that she made a second horrifying discovery: her personal belongings were gone.
Following the traumatic event, the victim filed a report with the police and took the initiative to review closed-circuit television footage from the nightclubs she had visited. The video evidence allegedly painted a damning picture.

A source close to the investigation revealed,
“The footage shows a man spiking her drink with an unknown substance and then taking her to his car.”
The stolen items included her prized iPhone 14 Pro Max, a wig, and a significant sum of cash amounting to US$1,200. This evidence led to the arrest of Campbell Nyakudya on Tuesday. He appeared before Harare Magistrate Marewanazvo Gofa, facing charges of rape and theft. Nyakudya was granted bail of US$200 and was not required to enter a plea.
