The City of Johannesburg (CoJ) says police should be given time to investigate whether the killing of one of its corruption investigators was linked to their work.
Zenzele Sithole was killed in a hail of bullets on Thursday afternoon while traveling in his car in central Johannesburg.
At the time of his death, Sithole was employed at the city’s group forensics and investigation services, as an investigator tasked with looking into corrupt activities within the municipality.
Johannesburg Mayor Kabelo Gwamanda said this was a sensitive time for Sithole’s family and co-workers.
Gwamanda said speculation around his death does not help anyone.
“As the CoJ we would like to urge firstly the media to allow the police to conduct their investigations with diligence, and integrity and ensure they leave no stone unturned.”
