Armed Robbers Steal Over US$56,000 from Brainscope Employees in Daylight Robbery

Two employees of Brainscope Investments were robbed of over US$56,000 while on their way to the bank in Southerton, Harare.

The heist, which occurred along Plymouth Road on Tuesday morning, has raised questions about potential security lapses, with some suggesting it could have been an inside job.

Police Confirm Investigation

According to H-Metro, Harare provincial police spokesperson Inspector Luckmore Chakanza confirmed the case, saying investigations were underway.

We are investigating an armed robbery case in Southerton. The total value stolen is US$58,000, and unfortunately, nothing has been recovered so far,” said Inspector Chakanza.

Blocked and Attacked in Broad Daylight

According to reports, the victims — Yvonne Zulu (29) and her driver, Simbarashe Chiinze (24) — were intercepted by a silver Toyota Fortuner as they approached the intersection of Plymouth and Melbourne Road.

Two armed men emerged from the vehicle and ordered them to stop before one of the robbers shattered the passenger window and reached inside to seize a bag containing US$56,500.

Cash and Personal Items Taken

The suspects also searched Simbarashe, stealing his wallet, which contained personal identification documents and an additional US$1,500.

After the robbery, the men fled the scene at high speed.

Public Questions Security Measures and Possible Inside Involvement

Meanwhile, some social media users have raised concerns about the circumstances surrounding the robbery, suggesting possible lapses in security protocols. Many questioned how employees could be transporting such a large sum of money without a proper security escort, while others speculated that the incident might involve insiders or be an inside job.
