Orlando Pirates secured a 3-1 victory over La Cure Waves FC on Sunday. However, Abdeslam Ouaddou left the match far from satisfied.
The Pirates coach believes his players lost their intensity after building a comfortable advantage.
Pirates initially fell behind before turning the match around with three unanswered goals.
Kabelo Kgositsile, Kamohelo Sebelebele and Yanela Mbuthuma found the net for the South African giants.
That victory secured Pirates’ progress to the next stage of the CAF Champions League qualifiers.
Nevertheless, Ouaddou expects greater discipline and ambition from his squad.
“I can’t be satisfied with winning 3-1. I don’t want to go forward to win 3-1 and then drop the rhythm in the second half,” said Ouaddou.
The coach wants his players to maintain their attacking intensity throughout matches.
Pirates coach draws the line on showboating
Ouaddou also delivered a strong message about individual flair during matches.
The French-Moroccan coach believes players should prioritise goals before attempting unnecessary tricks.
“If my players are satisfied with three goals, I think we’re lacking ambition and we won’t go far. We must take this job seriously. Football is about scoring goals. When you put five, six or seven goals, no problem. Then, i’ll allow the showboating. But when you see me sitting on the seat, it means I don’t agree. I can allow them to make showboating when we’re putting seven goals, but they have to understand that at the highest level, the best footballers are the ones who score goals.
“My job, as a coach, is to improve players and make them give their best to win games with a winning mentality,” he said.
Ouaddou then made his position even clearer.
“The moment that I accept this showboating, I’m sorry, I’ll leave the results, I’ll leave everything, pack my luggage and stop training because it won’t be my world. My world is winning games.”
“If they want to continue doing this, please, without me. I won’t be the coach,”
He added: “It’s clear. Not with me. I prefer to stop and maybe bring somebody who’ll accept the showboating. I won’t accept it.”
Pirates now turn their attention towards their next league assignment.
They face Durban City on Thursday, September 17, with kick-off scheduled for 19:30.
The match will be available on DStv SuperSport channel 202.
Meanwhile, former Pirates star Rele Mofokeng continues to impress in Belgium.
The Bafana Bafana playmaker scored during Union Saint-Gilloise’s 5-0 victory over Lommel SK.
Mofokeng has now scored three Belgian Pro League goals in just two starts.
The 21-year-old previously scored against Westerlo and Sint-Truidense.
Union Saint-Gilloise currently sit top of the Belgian league standings.
Mofokeng also helped the club win the Belgian Super Cup against Club Brugge in July.
