Anele Mdoda sparks debate after chilling SAPS warning over four Kempton Park deaths

Anele Mdoda has triggered a heated debate after responding to a disturbing police warning in Gauteng.

The broadcaster reacted after police raised concerns about four women found dead around Rhodesfield in Kempton Park.

The deaths reportedly occurred over a period of about two months.

Police found the victims in similar circumstances, including visible bruising and limited clothing.

However, SAPS has not officially confirmed that a serial killer is responsible.

Still, the similarities prompted police to launch a specialised investigation.

Mdoda responded to a post by Tumi Sole on X on Saturday, 12 September 2026.

Sole had shared the police statement about the deaths.

Mdoda then called for a far more aggressive response against whoever might be responsible.

She wrote: “We need to start playing offence. Plant women alone and lure these monsters in and shoot them in the head!!!! It’s enough. Cause who are these kids who must grow up with no mothers!!!! Nah, it’s enough,”

Her comments quickly attracted attention, with South Africans expressing sharply different views.

Police intensify investigation as debate grows

SAPS has responded to the disturbing pattern by establishing a dedicated multidisciplinary task team.

Acting National Commissioner Lieutenant General Puleng Dimpane ordered the immediate formation of the team.

Gauteng Deputy Provincial Commissioner Major General Mbuso Khumalo will lead the investigation.

The team will also include specialists from the Murder and Robbery Unit.

Investigative Psychology Unit detectives will form part of the operation as well.

Meanwhile, police have urged women around the area to take extra precautions.

They advised women against walking or running alone in isolated locations.

Mdoda’s comments received both support and criticism online.

Some users backed her frustration, particularly because families have lost loved ones.

Others questioned whether her proposed approach would be lawful or ethical.

One user suggested undercover officers could pose as runners to catch potential attackers.

Another highlighted the devastating impact on children who lose their mothers.

However, other users challenged the idea of using women as bait.

One commenter also reminded Mdoda that public figures must consider the consequences of their statements.

Police continue investigating the deaths and have appealed for information from the public.
