Big moves: Orlando Pirates announce new signing

Orlando Pirates have made an explosive start to the January transfer window. The Buccaneers confirmed the signing of attacking midfielder Andre de Jong from Stellenbosch FC.

The 29-year-old finally joins after Pirates missed out on him in September. He now prepares to wear the famous black and white jersey.

De Jong arrives after scoring three goals and providing one assist in 22 matches this season. Last season, he contributed eight goals and five assists in 47 appearances. Importantly, his intelligence and movement strengthen Pirates’ attacking balance.

“Orlando Pirates is pleased to announce the signing of Andre de Jong. Welcome, Andre,” the club stated.

EXPERIENCE ADDS ATTACKING DEPTH

De Jong brings valuable experience from New Zealand, Australia, and South Africa. Previously, he represented AmaZulu, Royal AM, and Stellenbosch FC. Overall, he has produced 69 goals and 37 assists in 260 senior matches.

At Pirates, he will challenge Sipho Mbule and Patrick Maswanganyi for places. Additionally, Kabelo Dlamini and Relebohile Mofokeng provide further competition. However, his work rate and movement offer something different in attack.

PIRATES FLY HIGH IN TITLE RACE

Meanwhile, Orlando Pirates have enjoyed an impressive 2025/26 campaign. They currently sit top of the Betway Premiership after 12 matches.
The team has collected 28 points from nine wins, one draw, and two losses. Importantly, they also have a game in hand.

Coach Abdeslam Ouaddou’s side has scored 18 goals and conceded just five. As a result, they boast a strong +13 goal difference. Furthermore, a six-game winning streak has strengthened their title push. The Sea Robbers have already lifted the MTN8 and Carling Knockout Cup this season.
