The passenger said female conductors questioned the driver about the increasing speed.

According to the eyewitness, who was seated in the fourth row from the front, the driver then indicated that the bus had no brakes.

The passenger said the driver attempted to avoid smaller vehicles as the bus continued travelling downhill before eventually crashing.

“I heard the driver say he had no brakes.”

The eyewitness said they did not see anyone die in the accident but reported that several people were injured.

Driver And Conductors Reportedly Injured

The driver and conductors were among those reportedly injured in the crash.

The exact number of injured passengers and the severity of their injuries had not been independently confirmed at the time of writing. [I cannot verify this]

The incident has again drawn attention to the challenges posed by the steep Christmas Pass route, particularly for heavy vehicles and buses.

A 31.2-kilometre Christmas Pass bypass is also being developed to divert traffic from the existing route, with the project intended to improve safety and ease congestion.

The eyewitness interview gives further detail about what happened inside the bus moments before the crash.
