Zimbabwe Police Hunt Cross-Border Fugitive After ‘Bloodbath’ Shooting Spree

A manhunt is underway across Zimbabwe as police desperately search for a 30-year-old man who allegedly turned a domestic dispute into a shooting rampage, leaving three people, including his wife, fighting for their lives. Francis Makuma Magirayano, who is believed to have recently returned from South Africa driving a silver Toyota Fortuner (registration JV 70 SM GP), is wanted for attempted murder following the shocking violence on 18 April 2026 in Chimanimani.

‘He Shot Her Multiple Times In The Face And Leg’

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) have released a public appeal, revealing the chilling details of the attack. The violence erupted following an argument between Magirayano and his wife, Mercyline Mahembe (26).

“The suspect, who is believed to have recently returned from South Africa driving a silver Toyota Fortuner (registration JV 70 SM GP), allegedly shot three victims with a firearm following a domestic dispute with his wife Mercyline Mahembe (26),” the ZRP confirmed on their official X account on 19 April 2026.

Police state that the man did not stop with his wife.

“The victims include his wife whom he shot multiple times on the cheek, hand and thigh, his sister-in-law whom he shot on the leg and a shopkeeper at a shop at Kopa Business Centre,” the police added.

All three victims are currently admitted to a hospital in Chipinge. The wife sustained the most brutal injuries, being hit several times in the face and limb.

Desperate Search For Silver Fortuner Driver

Authorities are now racing against time to track down the fugitive, who is considered armed and extremely dangerous. The ZRP is pleading with the public for any scraps of information that could lead to an arrest.

“The ZRP is appealing for information which may lead to the arrest of Francis Makuma Magirayano (30) who is wanted in connection with a case of Attempted Murder which occurred on 18/04/2026 in Chimanimani,” the police statement read.

Civilians are warned not to approach the man but to contact law enforcement immediately. The suspect’s vehicle, a silver Toyota Fortuner with South African registration plates JV 70 SM GP, has become the primary focus of the dragnet. Anyone who spots the car is urged to report it.

Public Urged To Call Police Immediately

The police have set up emergency hotlines for citizens to share tips anonymously or directly. They stress that any detail, no matter how small, could save lives.

“Anyone with information on his whereabouts to contact ZRP National Complaints Desk on (0242) 703631 or WhatsApp on 0712 800 197 or report at any nearest Police,” the ZRP appealed.
