Zimbabwean Teachers Could Be Heading To China, Here’s What We Know So Far
Zimbabwean English teachers could soon have a new route to work in China after Zimbabwe and China explored a proposed trade-in-services agreement that could open opportunities for qualified educators and other professionals.
The proposal was discussed during the 11th Session of the Zimbabwe-China Joint Commission on Economic, Technical and Trade Cooperation, held in Harare on 26 August 2026.
According to New Ziana, Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Zhemu Soda said the proposed arrangement was among the areas explored during the discussions.
“Other areas explored included an MoU on Trade in Services to facilitate opportunities for qualified Zimbabwean English-language teachers and other professionals in China,” Soda said.
China Opportunities For Zimbabwean Teachers
The proposal could create an additional avenue for Zimbabwean teachers with relevant qualifications to seek professional opportunities in China.
However, the arrangement is still at the proposal stage. The available information does not confirm when recruitment could begin, how many teachers could be involved or what specific requirements applicants would need to meet.
Cabinet’s report on the 26 August meeting also lists the proposed trade-in-services memorandum as part of wider Zimbabwe-China cooperation.
Broader Zimbabwe-China Cooperation
The discussions also covered trade, investment, digital commerce, artificial intelligence, emerging technologies and direct air connectivity.
Foreign Affairs and International Trade Minister Professor Amon Murwira said Zimbabwe wanted bilateral agreements to produce tangible economic outcomes, including investment and employment.
The proposed teachers’ arrangement therefore forms part of a much broader effort to expand practical economic cooperation between the two countries.
