Deadly Driver Finally Arrested After Two Fatal Hit-And-Run Accidents

Honda Fit Driver Accused Of Fleeing Two Deadly Crash Scenes

A Harare motorist accused of fleeing from two separate accident scenes where two people later died has been arrested, police confirmed.

According to The Herald, the suspect, identified as Zivai Jembere, was arrested following investigations into a deadly crash that happened in Harare on 3 May 2026.

Police said the accident occurred at around 1:30am at the intersection of Simon Vengai Muzenda Road and Samora Machel Avenue.

Passenger Died Days After Horror Crash

Harare provincial police spokesperson Luckmore Chakanza confirmed the arrest and said investigations linked Jembere to the fatal accident.

Inspector Chakanza said:

“Police arrested a motorist who was involved in road traffic accidents and failed to stop.”

Police alleged that Jembere was driving a Honda Fit with registration number ADJ 1907 when it collided with another Honda Fit driven by Frankson Simbarashe Mudzingwa.

Investigators said the impact caused Mudzingwa’s vehicle to overturn several times before landing on its wheels.

A passenger in the vehicle, Andrew Tawanda Mbaya, sustained serious injuries and later died at Parirenyatwa Hospital eight days after the crash.

Police claimed the suspect drove away from the scene without stopping.

Police Link Suspect To Another Fatal Crash

Police also alleged that after his arrest, investigators connected Jembere to another fatal road accident in Murehwa in January 2026.

Inspector Chakanza said authorities were intensifying operations against reckless mushikashika drivers.

He said:

“A number of mushikashika drivers have been failing to stop when involved in road traffic accidents, and we continue to warn such drivers to obey road rules and regulations.”

The police spokesperson added that officers were acting on earlier remarks made by Harare provincial police commander Maxwell Chikunguru.

“Mushikashika drivers would be required to account for every dent on their vehicles, particularly those that are impounded.”

Meanwhile, police are also investigating another hit-and-run accident that occurred along the Harare-Mutare Road on 18 May 2026, where a 21-year-old pedestrian died on the spot after being struck by a vehicle.
