Tributes are pouring in for South African DJ and media personality Warwick Stock, widely known as DJ Warras, following his death in an apparent drive-by shooting in Johannesburg.
.The shocking incident occurred on Tuesday, 16 December 2025, while the former 5FM presenter was reportedly handling security duties.
Friends and fellow musicians confirmed the tragedy online. Fellow musician The Kiffness speculated about the circumstances surrounding the incident, stating it happened during a routine security check.
Confusion And Tributes Follow Fatal Shooting
The details surrounding DJ Warras’s death remain unclear. Superintendent Xolani Fihla of the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) confirmed a shooting incident in the Johannesburg CBD but provided no specifics.
“The department can confirm a shooting incident that happened this afternoon in the Johannesburg CBD. JMPD officers were first respondents to the incident when they were stopped by members of public who alerted them to the shooting,” said Fihla.
Businessman and friend Rob Hersov was among the first to share the devastating news on X, passionately paying tribute to Warras.
“He was murdered today Johannesburg. I just want to say he is the most loving, compassionate, friendly, honest, open, decent human being, and it is a tragedy beyond belief. Warras, we love you, we miss you, may you rest in peace, brother,” Hersov posted.
A Multifaceted Career In Media And Security
Warrick Stock, a 39-year-old native of Durban, built a diverse career spanning radio, television, and entrepreneurship.
After rising to prominence on YFM and later 5FM, he became a well-known club DJ and TV presenter, most recently hosting Mzansi Magic’s new reality show Ngicel’iVisa which premiered in October 2025.
In a February 2025 interview, Warras expressed excitement about his television comeback and new music projects.
Beyond entertainment, he owned JT VIP: Elite Guarding & VIP Protection Services. This security company provided safety for major events, including the Chris Brown concert and the launch of the new dome at FNB Stadium.
