Mamadou Gaye Urges Kaizer Chiefs to Appoint Nigeria’s Sunday Oliseh as Head Coach
Football analyst Mamadou Gaye has called on Kaizer Chiefs to end their extended period under temporary leadership and appoint former Nigeria manager Sunday Oliseh as head coach.
The iconic Soweto club has been without a full-time coach since October 2025, when they parted ways with Tunisian tactician Nasreddine Nabi.
Interim Coaches Holding the Fort
Following Nabi’s departure, Kaizer Chiefs announced that Khalil Ben Youssef and Cedric Kaze would guide the team on a temporary basis for the rest of the 2025–2026 season. While the duo has led the team in recent fixtures, Gaye believes the club’s stature requires a permanent managerial appointment to ensure stability and long-term planning.
“A Professional Club Can’t Wait Forever”
Speaking on SuperSport’s Soccer Africa, Gaye expressed concern over the prolonged caretaker arrangement.
“A club like Kaizer Chiefs should not go eight months or more without a permanent coach. There are many qualified options out there. I’m just suggesting Sunday Oliseh — he would be a strong choice,” he said.
Oliseh’s Coaching Credentials
Sunday Oliseh, currently unattached, has a rich coaching background. He previously managed the Nigerian national team and had stints with European clubs including Belgium’s Verviétois, the Netherlands’ Fortuna Sittard, and Germany’s SV 19 Straelen.
With the Kaizer Chiefs still searching for a long-term leader, speculation is mounting over who will take the reins permanently, as the club aims to regain dominance in domestic competitions.
